Climate Resilient Agriculture Practices

Climate Resilient Agriculture is a hot topic among researchers as it is one of the main focus of Climate Change.
With the change in climate due to issues such as global warming, poor air quality, unpredictable natural disasters etc., agriculture has been severely affected.
Extreme drought and extreme floods are negatively impacting crop quality which is leading to food shortage and economic loss to farmers.
Agriculture contributes about 17% to the total GDP of India and provides employment to around 58% of the population. Therefore, development of new technologies and innovative solutions becomes crucial for the country to cope with rapid climate change.

Steps taken towards Climate resilient agriculture:
1. Installation of Flux towers for continuous measurement of green house gases in large field areas to understand the impact of management practices on emissions.
2. Assessment of climatic variations in livestock and aquaculture.
3. Assessment of disease patterns in livestock
4.Anti Microbial Resistance pattern throughout the changing climate.
5. Rapid and large scale screening of germplasm of wild crop varieties for developing disease resistant and resilient crops.

Way forward:
We still have a long way to go for development resilient and sustainable Agricultural practices but we are definitely heading towards the right direction.
