Future of Marine And Space Research

FUTURISTIC MARINE AND SPACE RESEARCH

Weren’t you fascinated as little kids whenever you saw shooting stars in the sky or tiny fishes jumping in a pond?
Human beings are considered as ‘curious animals’. This trait indeed has driven us into much progress that we know today. Whether it be beneath deep oceans or vast universe our curiosity has helped humanity uncover many of nature’s secrets. Marine and space research is one of the major fields which helps us in understanding of the surrounding we live in. These researches are not only about discover but also for expanding human knowledge and learning ways for a sustainable future.
Marine Research
Over 40% of the world’s population live in areas within 200km of the ocean. Grown up in a small island myself, I, too was always fascinated with the vast ocean and the clear sky above me. It is so captivating that we know so much yet so little about our marine life. but our rapidly growing society is impacting the environment leading to pollution by chemical as well as physical waste. Integrated research is highly required to regenerate ideas to help reduce pollution. With the rapid increase in ocean pollution the United Nations General Assembly in 2017 proclaimed the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030) (‘the Ocean Decade’). The mission of this organization to attain before 2030 is:
1. A clean ocean
2. A healthy and resilient ocean
3. A productive ocean
4. A predicted ocean
5. A safe ocean
6. An accessible ocean
7. An inspiring and engaging ocean
In conclusion, the future of marine research holds promise for unveiling new discoveries, advancing technologies and addressing the environmental challenges for the betterment of the next generations to come.

Space research
From the launch of “sputnik I” to the plans of colonization of mars, we have come a long way. As technology advances our exploration of the outer space just continues to expand creating new opportunities as well as challenges. After ISRO’s successful mission of Chandrayaan 3, there are a lot of upcoming projects for the Indian scientists. For example, the Indian space of research organization (ISRO) in collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has started the Lunar Polar Exploration (LUPEX) project. According to the official site of JAXA, “LUPEX project is an initiative aimed at exploring the Moon for water and other resources and gaining expertise in exploring the surface of the Moon”. Project Gaganyaan aims to send three Indian astronauts in space in country’s own spacecraft. And according to reports a test flight to check the technology readiness for the final mission, is scheduled to take off by the end of 2024.
As we continue to explore the beautiful universe, the knowledge gained will definitely inspire new generation to look beyond the stars and dream of new possibilities.
