Profile

My laboratory is primarily focus on promoting the documentation, scientific validation and evaluation of traditional healthcare practices. This includes the ethnobotany and ethnopharmacological perspectives of medicinal plants including their cultivation, promotion, value addition and chemical profiling, and promotion of start-ups based on development of herbal medicinal products (AYUSH drugs, Phytopharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals etc). to full fill the mandate of the institute various medicinal plants of the region are targeted for their documentation, extraction, isolation, characterization, value-addition, development of marker compounds, qualitative evaluation and standardization. Priority therapeutic areas which my laboratory is targeting include anti-diabetic, anti-cancer, bronchial asthma, gastro-protectives and immuno-modulation. In addition, Value-addition to the traditional knowledge is also targeted which can lead to the cause of translational and transformational research through Medicinal plants of the NER.

Current Focus Areas

  • Documentation of traditional healthcare practices and Healers of NER.

  • Validation of the traditional medicine/practices for lead identification and product development through translational approach including standardization of extraction procedures, total phytochemical studies, biological efficacy studies (both in vitro and in vivo) with an aim to identify the potential research leads (at pre-clinical level)

  • Chemical profiling and metabolic studies of the bioresources of the North east region.
