Profile

Bio-economy from Bio-resources through accessing challenges of conservation and sustainability of medicinally important commercially utilisable plants of North-eastern region (NER) of India. Work involves identification of ecological niches and distribution amplitude of medicinal & commercially important plants. Ecological & adaptive study and findings worked out as management strategies for conservation & sustainability through cultivation in NER. The eco-physiological parameters of plant in natural environment and in newer environment in which they are introduced are undertaken to study the adaptability, performance variability and evaluation of plant species. For effective conservation and to introduce these plants in agriculture location specific agro-techniques are being developed and standardize. Conservation and cultivation of medicinal & aromatic and commercially utilisable plants of NER are taken up with ecological evaluation, adaptive study and agro-technology development on Gaultheria fragrantissima, Swertia chirayita and Valeriana jatamansi.

Current Focus Areas

  • Developing comprehensive agro-technology, post-harvest technology, evaluation and value addition of commercially potential medicinal plants of the North-eastern region of India.

  • Currently engaged in, accessing challenges of conservation and sustainability of medicinally important commercially utilisable plants of North-eastern region (NER) of India.

  • Work involves identification of ecological niches and distribution amplitude of medicinal & commercially important plants.
