Engaged in Ethnopharmacological Survey, Collection, and Identification of Bioresources used in Traditional Medicines. His team has documented details traditional health care practices of folklore healers of Manipur and Sikkim in written and audio-visual format. He is also working on pharmacological evaluation of traditional medicines to justify the traditional claim and to develop economic/safe/novel therapeutic products. After having generated a large database, his initial focus was for pharmacological evaluation of selected formulations against arthritis & metabolic disorders as claimed by the healers. The first time his team reported the role of COX-3 in the treatment of arthritic disorders which could provide a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment of inflammatory disorders and identified COX-3 inhibitor from traditional medicine.

Current Focus Areas

  • Initial focus is ethnopharmacological survey and documentation of Traditional Knowledge of folklore healers of Sikkim. Subsequently traditional knowledge guided pharmacological evaluation of high altitude medicinal plants for against arthritis & metabolic disorders for developing economic/safe/novel therapeutic products.
