Jyoti received a PhD in Microbiology from the Pune University in India, and engaged in postdoctoral research at the Louisiana State University, USA. Her areas included anaerobic and oilfield microbiology, microbial ecology, and environmental biotechnology. She subsequently served as a faculty member at Modern College, Pune, and later, as a Project Manager at Kan Biosys, an agribiotech company in Pune. She joined NCCS as a scientist in 2012, where she leads institutional science communication, public engagement and outreach activities, and also manages diverse aspects of science administration. She has served as a reviewer for the EURAXESS Science Slam India, and British Council’s FameLab India competitions. She uses art to make science more engaging for a lay audience. Her artwork fetched the second prize at CSIR-IGIB’s competition held to commemorate Gregor Mendel's birth bicentennial. Another item of sci-art was displayed at scientific events in the US, the UK and Poland.
