Profile
Dinesh is a medicinal chemist and drug discovery scientist. Dinesh has experience in leading various drug discovery projects from the conception of the idea to the delivery of IND candidates by leading multidisciplinary scientific teams involved in the identification/development of chemical hits as well as drug leads by understanding & optimizing SAR and ADME-PK properties; late stage pre-clinical evaluation to identify molecules for IND enabling studies. Drug development experience includes process R&D and new formulation development to address solubility, stability, or bio-availability issues. His group is focused on drug discovery efforts against diseases of national interest, such as NAFLD, resistant tuberculosis & other microbial infections. The group's core activities involve hit to lead optimization involving SAR development and DMPK evaluation. Most of these discovery efforts collaborate with different disease biology research groups. His group also invests efforts to understand disease pathophysiology using well-characterized diet-induced animal models of NAFLD.
Current Focus Areas
Drug discovery and development for resistant tuberculosis infection
Drug discovery and development for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Diseases (NAFLD)
Role of specific nutritional deficiency in the pathogenesis and progression of NAFLD to NASH and HCC
Chemical modification of existing drugs to alter DMPK profile with an aim to enhance therapeutic index and safety profile
Development of botanical extracts based formulations as therapeutic options for metabolic diseases such as NAFLD
