Profile

I am a Structural Biologist with over 15 years of research experience in studying the interactions of serum proteins with drug/non drug ligands. PhD in Biotechnology from Aligarh Muslim University, post doctoral training at Jawahar Lal Nehru University and working as a faculty in National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi since 2015. I have received Biotechnology Career Advancement and Re-orientation Program for Women Scientists award from Department of Biotechnology, India and Dr. D.S. Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship award from University Grants Commission, India. My research work broadly emphasizes on understanding the Human serum albumin (HSA), being the most abundant carrier protein in blood and a modern day clinical tool for drug delivery that attracts high attention among biologists. HSA acts as a potential contender for being a molecular cargo or nanovehicle for clinical, biophysical and industrial purposes. My work highlights overview on the ligand (drug/non drug) binding and folding/unfolding strategies of the protein in therapeutics and clinical biochemistry.

Current Focus Areas

  • 1. Elucidating the complicated mechanism of toxin disposition and impaired drug binding in renal disease state. 2. Probing the binding of heavy environmental pollutants which are carcinogenic with human serum albumin, the major transport protein in blood especially for Zn2+ and Cd2+ metal ions
