Profile

Devyani Haldar obtained her M.Sc. (Biotechnology) from JNU, Delhi and Ph.D. (Biochemistry) from the IISc, Bangalore. During Ph.D., she purified a structure-specific endonuclease from rat testis and showed it functions in processing of DNA replication and repair intermediates. She worked on deciphering biological functions of the Sirtuin family NAD-dependent protein deacetylases at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA as post-doctoral fellow. Her work on fission yeast Sirtuin showed, Hst4 deacetylates, Histone H3 lysine 56 acetylation, a novel histone modification and this deacetylation is required for DNA damage signaling. Currently, she is the head of the Laboratory of Chromatin Biology and Epigenetics at the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD), Hyderabad. Her research group is working towards understanding functions and regulation of chromatin modifications and regulators in DNA replication, replication stress response and repair and contribution of these mechanisms to maintenance of genomic integrity and implication in cancer progression.

Current Focus Areas

  • Understanding mechanisms that main genomic integrity. Mechanisms of DNA replication and repair in chromatin context by studying dynamic changes in chromatin structure and regulator. Interaction of mTORC complexes and sirtuins in metabolic reprogramming in glioblastoma
