Profile

Chandrabhas Narayana did his early education in Mysore and his Ph.D. from the Department of Physics, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. After his post-doctoral research in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Cornell University, Ithaca NY, USA, he joined as an Assistant Professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore in 1998. He continues to be a Professor in the Chemistry and Physics of Materials Unit there. He is currently the Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Thiruvananthapuram. Though a trained condensed matter Physicist and specialist in Raman spectroscopy, he developed a keen interest in Biology and started research in the area of Biophysics and Bio-photonics. His interest ranges from Protein structure-function, drug discovery, plasmonic structures for biological applications, Diagnostic applications, and Bio-medical device development. He uses Raman spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction using synchrotron sources, and MD Simulations for this type of research.
