Profile

Recent studies suggested a link between obesity and gut microflora. Proinflammatory “Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)” originating from Gram-negative bacteria and other bacterial metabolites translocate to the circulation causing low-grade inflammation (endotoxemia) associated with obesity. Our research goal is to develop functional foods that could beneficially modulate gut microflora and protect from inflammation underlying obesity and metabolic syndrome. Our Research is focused on 1. Understanding the role of cereals and millets and their bioactive ingredients (dietary fibers and other phytochemicals) in mitigating life style associated disorders. 2. Evaluation of probiotics and prebiotic for thier protective role under gut inflammatory conditions. We employ diet-induced obese rodent models, nutrigenomic and metagenomic approach in our studies.
