Profile

Dr. Punit Prasad did his post-graduation in biotechnology from the prestigious Maharaja Sayajirao University, Vadodara, and completed his doctoral thesis under the supervision of Prof. Blaine Bartholomew at the Southern Illinois University, USA. During his doctoral research, Dr. Prasad worked on the chromatin remodeling machineries in budding yeast and published his observations in several peer-reviewed journals. Next, Dr. Prasad joined the reputed Karolinska Institute of Stockholm, Sweden, for post-doctoral research in the laboratory of Prof. Karl Ekwall. Dr. Prasad is working as Scientist-E at the Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar, where he leads a team of graduate students to investigate the function of epigenetic factors in human myeloid development and leukemia. He has extended his scientific interest to understanding the role of microbiomes in normal and diseased states of individuals. He has published his research in international journals of repute. Dr. Prasad also receives several national and international awards and fellowships.

Current Focus Areas

  • My group addresses two major biological questions: 1. What epigenetic mechanisms regulate normal and abnormal myelopoiesis? 2. What is the role of microbiome in normal and diseased states of an individual?
