About Workshop

Join us for a comprehensive 3 day workshop on clinical genomics entitled "Hands-on workshop on clinical whole exome/targeted sequencing". This workshop, organized by the NGS-core facility of BRIC – Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar, will provide participants with theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the rapidly advancing field of clinical genomics.

Whole exome/targeted sequencing is a cost-effective and efficient approach for identifying genetic variants linked to various diseases. In this workshop, we will focus on the application of whole exome/targeted sequencing highlighting the complete workflow starting from DNA extraction, library preparation to sequencing and data analysis pipeline.

Workshop Highlights:
  1. Interactive Lectures:
    • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the clinical application of whole exome/targeted sequencing.
    • Explore the principles, advantages, and challenges in variant detection,prioritization and interpretation.
  2. Hands-on Practical Sessions:
    • Perform library preparation of clinical samples using Agilent’s SureSelect kit.
    • Quality control after library preparation and overview of sequencing workflow.
  3. Data Analysis:
    • Acquire basic skills in data analysis for whole exome/targeted sequencing.
    • Learn how to interpret and visualize variants of interest.
    • Explore bioinformatics tools and pipelines for data analysis
    • Plot generation from data using R
  4. Discussions and Q&A:
    • Engage in discussions with experienced instructors and fellow participants
    • Seek guidance on experimental design, troubleshooting, and best practices

Mini Symposium

As a prelude to the workshop, we are delighted to announce that a mini-symposium on Clinical Exome/Targeted Sequencing is organised on the March 5th, 2025. This will be an excellent opportunity and exposure for the candidates to learn about the applications of whole exome/targeted sequencing. Distinguished scientists working in clinical and functional genomics will present their exciting research work followed by an interaction with the attendees.

Registration Details

Registration is mandatory for participation in the workshop. To attend the workshop, all interested individuals must complete the registration process within the specified deadline Interested participants should register for this workshop by filling up the google form. You will be asked to upload your resume and a write-up (minimum 100 words) on how this workshop will be helpful for your research and career development.

The registration deadline is 31st January, 2025. Only twenty four participants will be selected.

Registration Fee

Please note the following registration fees:

PhD students : Rs. 5,000
Post-docs : Rs. 6,000
Faculty/Scientists/Doctors : Rs. 8,000
Industry Professionals : Rs. 10,000

Please ensure that you make the payment in the specified amount based on your professional category. The registration fee covers the cost of workshop materials, practical sessions, access to equipment, and accommodation and food.

Only selected candidates are required to pay the registration fees. Upon receiving the acceptance notification, selected participants will be provided with detailed instructions regarding the payment process and the deadline for payment.

Selection will be based on the write-up.

Selection Procedure

Selection Process: Please note that only twenty four participants will be selected for this workshop. The selection will be based on the quality and relevance of the write-up submitted during the registration process. The workshop organizers will evaluate the write-ups to ensure a diverse group of participants with genuine interest and potential benefit from the workshop.

Notification of Acceptance: After the selection process, the workshop organizers will notify the selected participants via email within a few days following the registration deadline. The email will contain further instructions and information on how to proceed with confirming your participation in the workshop.

Travel Arrangements: Once you have received confirmation of your acceptance, you can begin making your travel arrangements. Please note that participants are responsible for covering their own travel expenses. We recommend making travel arrangements well in advance to secure the best rates and availability.
